Online & Offline - Who I am as a Writer (Blog Post #2)
Hello again fellow readers!! π½
Today, I sadly won't be writing as much as I did for my first blog post (which might be exciting for some of you) because I'll be working with around eight 6th graders as a writing coach for the semester! With that being said, this week I've been tasked to create my own writing coach profile and to make a collage about my literacy identity. This blog post will show those two things! I hope you enjoy!! π
Emily Bemowski
Emily studies English Education (4-12) at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She will graduate in Spring 2027. Emily has always enjoyed teaching students, as she has taught a second grade religion class, observed a high school English classroom, and tutored one-on-one with first graders. In recent years, she has worked at Disney World for a total of ten months. In her spare time, Emily enjoys listening to a variety of music, as well as, reading the horror genre, and watching movies and shows like Harry Potter, Stranger Things, and any Disney movie. She also enjoys learning about other topics and is excited to help with writings from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures.
My literacy identity collage:
Also, if you love Harry Potter as much as I do, here's a link to the video that started it all for me...
Well that's it! That's my post. π
Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteYour collage is beautifully composed! Your use of multiple different mediums to connect to those who view it is wonderful! In doing this, you go beyond simply connection to literature and writers, but also tap into other avenues of special interest and discussion. The broad range of pictured items will surely allow for great engagement with not only us, but your students as well! (P.S. I ADORE Animal Crossing! Who is your favorite villager?)
Thank you!! Honestly, if I had to choose a villager, I would definitely have to go with Ketchup!!
DeleteThere is a lot of overlap between our music tastes that I am very thrilled to see - having "Synchonicity" on there is a great one (the best Police album in my opinion). I am a bonafide Nintendo fan, and also love Mario and Animal Crossing. Have you played any of the new update at all? I've really been enjoying all the new Zelda stuff and the hotel!
ReplyDelete"Synchronicity" is definitely the best Police album in my opinion too!! And as for Animal Crossing, I have yet to play the new update, but I heard great things! Hopefully during spring break I'll have more time to play.
DeleteHi Emily,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love the energy in your post. Your voice comes through so clearly, it feels welcoming in a way that I imagine your future students will really respond to. Your background really stood out to me. Teaching second-grade religion, observing a high school English classroom, tutoring first graders, and even working at Disney World; that’s such a diverse set of experiences. I can see how that combination would make you adaptable and comfortable working with different ages and personalities.
I also love that your literacy collage includes so much great music, book references, and Disney references. That kind of passion can be powerful in a classroom because it reminds students that reading and writing are tied to things they care about.
How do you think your love for music or fantasy might influence the kinds of writing assignments you’d design someday?
Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteI really like your collage, it looks awesome, especially with the stars in the background! It's cool to see that you like Coraline and Twilight too! I also love Harry Potter very much! I read them so late in my life and had an obsession my senior year of high school that has come down but it's still dear to my heart. I love the character of Rodrick, especially from the movies, those movies are toooo good! I really like the albums you put down too, they're all so beautiful and unique!! Working at Disney World is such a cool job! I'm sure the patience and composure of joy during that job helps with applying to other jobs when working with children!
Hi Emily!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading this post. First of all, congrats on becoming a writing coach for 6th graders, that is such an exciting (and impactful) role to step into. I love how you framed this post around your writing coach profile and literacy identity because it already shows how reflective and intentional you are about your teaching journey.
Your background is especially interesting to me. Teaching across so many age groups, from first graders to high schoolers, plus your time at Disney World, feels like such a unique combination of experiences. It really comes through that you value storytelling, imagination, and meeting learners where they are. Your interests in horror, fantasy, and Disney also feel like a great bridge to connect with students who may not see themselves as “readers” yet.
I also appreciated how open you are to working with writers from different backgrounds and cultures. That mindset is so important, especially in writing spaces, and it already makes you sound like a coach students will feel comfortable with. I’m excited to see how your literacy identity continues to evolve as you work with your 6th graders this semester!
OHHHHHHMIGOSH POTTER PUPPET PALS I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF THAT IN FOREVER!!! Wow what a blast from the past, that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt was you who helped me realize my literacy collage didn't have to be just books, and I thank you for that because it made me remember why I love writing! It's not only books, it's movies, comics, youtube videos, video games, everything like that! I think it's actually really great that you did that, because it also tells me you're gonna be a great teacher! I also love your style in these posts it's so awesome, writing like the superstar you are!
Hey Emily! Your collage is absolutely beautiful! I also am a big fan of Animal Crossing! It is such a relaxing and fun game! I found it very interesting that you worked for Disney for that long! What kind of work did you do there? That sounds like such an awesome dream to achieve!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! There's literally so many things you can do in Animal Crossing! But, as for Disney, I just worked in a couple different restaurants in Magic Kingdom!! Mostly because I didn't have a choice (as they always just randomly place us anywhere they need people).
