Final Reflection- Is This Goodbye Forever??? (Blog Post #8)

Welcome back everyone to my possible final blog post!! Yes, I'm actually slightly sad guys 🥹 Looking back on my blog posts from this semester, I can see how my writing developed across different areas like professionalism, multimodal design, creativity, and civic engagement. Each post reflects a different strength, and I chose the following entries as my best work in each category!     1) Professionalism:  Why Feedback Matters (Blog Post #5)          I chose this post as my strongest example of professionalism because of how clearly I explained the importance of feedback in writing. I used course readings, included direct quotes, and conencted ideas to real classroom practices. This post shows my ability to balance personal voice with academic thinking, especially when I discuessed the roles of teachers, peers, and writing coaches. It feels like a strong representation of how I would communicate as a future educator.     2) Multimodal D...

Poverty & Hunger PSA (Blog Post #7)

Image
Heyyy everyone!! It feels like it's only been a minute since I last posted on this blog (yeah, it was literally just last week), but I'm here to talk about my civic engagement topic of poverty and hunger again, but this time with a public service announcement! ❗❗❗ For my little public service announcement, I used two books that I focused on a lot last week! These books are  Smoove City by Kenny Keil  and  Maddi's Fridge by Lois Brandt . And here is the PSA I created! Poverty and Hunger Public Service Announcement Creating this PSA as a breaking news type style pushed me to think differently about how messaes about poverty and hunger can be communicated. Instead of just explaining ideas in writing, I had to combine text, visuals, audio, and tone to create urgency and emotional impact. Using short, headline style phrases alongside different background videos like empty spaces or everyday city life scenes helped highlight how hunger is often hidden in plain sight, which conn...

Poverty & Hunger (Blog Post #6)

Image
Welcomeee back!! I hope everyone had a great spring break!  🥫 This week I wanted to talk about a social issue that I've helped with for  manyyy  years. That social issue is hunger and poverty. Ever since I was like 13 years old, I've served food to people in need with my family members. I've also gone on some trips to Texas and Missouri to help rebuild and clean parts of cities after natural disasters occur.  (some friends and I cleaning trash from a pond) (I'm somewhere in this picture, but we were cleaning out an abandoned apartment) For this week, I read the following books: Maddi's Fridge - Lois Brandt Poverty and Hunger - Louise Spilsbury Smoove City - Kenny Keil I also watched the following videos: Why is it so hard to escape poverty? - Ann-Helen Bay Food Waste, Global Hunger, and You What is Poverty? Here is my book talk for this week that talks a little more about the texts and videos above! That's all though for today! See ya real soon!! 🏡

Why Feedback Matters (Blog Post #5)

Image
Ayeee it's great to have you back for another blog post! 📃 Today I'll be talking about novice writers and all the kinds of things that they need. Which in all honesty, writing and learning can be a lot like building something with LEGO pieces. At first, you might dump all the pieces on a table and not really know where to start. Yes, there are directions given to you in new sets, but I still need time to process all the new pieces in front of me. As you make your way through the building process, some pieces will fit together easily. Other pieces take a few tries before they work. Novice writers often experience something similar when they try to turn their ideas into paragraphs. They may have plenty of thoughts, but figuring out how those ideas connect can be challenging. Because of this, writers need support from different people along the way. Teachers who can show them what writing looks like, peers who can respond as readers, and writing coaches who can help them revise a...

The Power of Multimodal Storytelling (Blog Post #4)

Image
Welcome baaack peeps! 🎹 Today, I'll be talking about my experiences with digital storytelling and other multimodal compositions!! Have I gone against the wills of being an English education major? And by that I mean composing other forms of storytelling, and not just writing essays until the end of time.  Or   have I actually used the creative freedom that professors sometimes give me, and composed cool book trailers or news announcements? Well, that's what we'll figure out in my jumble of ideas today.  At first glance of the questions above, I thought man, I'm really not creative and have always been boooringgg with writing essays 24/7. But as I thought backwards in time, allllll the way to elementary school, I realized that I have actually created other forms of storytelling/multimodal compositions. And I had to scroll wayyy way wayy   back in my thousands of videos and photos JUST   to expose myself in this blog post 😔✋. So you're welcome seriously to w...

Writing, Thinking, and AI: Where I Stand (Blog Post #3)

Image
Welcome back literary enthusiasts! It's been a minuteee 🧠 For this weeks post I unfortunately  have to talk about AI and whether or not I think it should be used to teach writing. I'll let you know right away that I absolutely despise  artificial intelligence and anyone who uses it because I wish people would just use their brains for once in their life! I feel like people who constantly rely on AI for every single thought process in their day are hopeless and need to consider some serious therapy. And I especially mean the people who ask stupid questions like "what should I eat for breakfast" or "can I microwave a mac and cheese cup without water?" Those questions are literally so simple and people need to use common sense. On the other hand, maybe you ask ChatGPT how to word a sentence or you might ask it if you're ever going to find a best friend and love interest all in one person. Personally, I sometimes ask AI how I should word a sentence because...

Online & Offline - Who I am as a Writer (Blog Post #2)

Image
Hello again fellow readers!! 👽 Today, I  sadly  won't be writing as much as I did for my first blog post (which might be exciting for s ome  of you) because I'll be working with around eight 6th graders as a writing coach for the semester! With that being said, this week I've been tasked to create my own writing coach profile and to make a collage about my literacy identity. This blog post will show those two things! I hope you enjoy!! 🎆                                                                         Emily Bemowski Emily studies English Education (4-12) at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She will graduate in Spring 2027. Emily has always enjoyed teaching students, as she has taught a second grade religion class, observed a high school English...
